The role of the ocean in the Earth system, properties of seawater, geodetic mapping of ocean currents, sea-level changes, marine observation techniques, ocean tides, reference levels at the sea, underwater acoustics, and nautical charting.
The students should understand the role of the ocean as an important indicator of climate change, the basic principles of nautical charting, and how ocean currents, sea-level change, and ocean topography can be mapped by geodetic methods.
Teaching support will be given primarily in connection with that part of the structured teaching that is set aside for exercise guidance. It will also be possible to communicate directly with the course teacher.
An overview will be handed out at the first meeting.
Calculus and linear algebra. Programming. Basic physics. GMLM102, GMGD200 (former GMLM213) GMPE240 (former GMUJ210).
Exercises will be evaluated.
Written examination: 100%. Exercises: passed/not passed.

The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
