Course contents:
Principles for conversion and transformation between forms of energy.  Overview of the worldwide available renewable energy resources.  Applications of conversion from primary forms of energy such as bioenergy, energy in the motion of fluids, and solar energy.  Principles for energy storage.  Conventional conversion of fossil energy superficially.  Processes for carbon capture and storage.  Institutional and economic factors.
Learning outcome:
Studentene skal ha innsikt i praktiske industrielle anvendelser innenfor energiproduksjon og energiomsetning. Studentene skal ha god kjennskap til fornybare og ikke-fornybare energikilder. Studentene skal kunne anvende termodynamikk og annen generell fysikk for å forstå hvordan en kan utnytte aktuelle energiressurser og bruke ulike energiomformingsprinsipper. Studentene skal forstå prinsipper og bruksområder for ulike måter å lagre og fordele energi på.
Learning activities:
The lectures will cover main ideas and theories of energy physics and closely related topics, it will give the baisc tools for the student to address different problems and situations. In excecises, the students will solve related problems to the field, using mathematical tools. The concepts in the lecture will serve as guide for adressing the problems.

FYS245, FYS252
Mandatory activity:
No compulsory activities.  Problems for analysis will be given underway.
Written exam (3,5 hours).
Nominal workload:
For 13 weeks: Lectures: 2 x 2 hours per week. Exercises: 1 x 2 hours per week. Individual work an group discussions: 15 hours per week for 15 weeks. Total of 300 hours.

FYS271 - 5 credits.
Type of course:
For 13 weeks: Lectures: 2 x 2 hours per week. Exercises: 1 x 2 hours per week. Self-study and colloquia.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
