Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2017-2018
Lectures: Two hours per week where central topics in the course are discussed. Exercises: Two hours per week where the students work individually or in groups of two with problem solving, and where a teacher will help if necessary. Computer laboratory: two hours per week., where electromagnetic topics are simulated.
The course covers:
- Electromagnetics with the application of vector fields: Coulomb's law, Gauss law, dielectric materials, Poisson's and Laplace's equations, the Biot-Savart law, Faraday's law, Maxwell's equations in differential form, electromagnetic waves.
Obtain a good understanding of electromagnetism and the laws used in computation. To understand how electromagnetism can be described by vector fields.
The lectures cover central topics and theories. In the exercises and computer laboratory the student will solve quantitative and conceptual problems on topics that have been covered in the lectures. Both analytical and computational approaches may be applied in the problem solving.
The plan is to place the students in study groups to cooperate with other students in this course. The students can contact the teacher for general advice, verbally or by e-mail.

Final written exam
Per week 10 hours in 15 weeks: Lectures: 2 hours per week. Exercises: 2 hours per week. Computer laboratory: 2 hours per week. Preparations and other course work: 6 hours weekly. Total workload: 150 hours.

The teaching period consists of 14 weeks. There will be 13 weeks of organized teaching Lectures: 1 x 2 hours x 13 weeks = 26 hours. Exercises: 1 x 2 hours x 13 weeks = 26 hours. Computer laboratory: 1 x 2 hours x 13 weeks = 26 hours.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates' exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
