The course provides an introduction into structural and individual factors such as legislation and organization of health services and public health, work environment, psychology and social factors for determining health.
After finishing the course the student should be able to understand the complex connection between humans and the environment, and how this in term affects the health. The student should be able to use relevant tools in order to map and measure psychological- and social factors.
Lectures, seminars, assignments, excursions, semester assignments, e-learning and self study.
Teachers are available at the workshops and through Canvas.
An overview of literature will be available upon the start of the course.

One obligatory activity. The activity is specified in the time schedule.
One semester assignment and one oral exam. The semester assignment must be graded to a grade between A and E in order for the student to advancee to the oral examination. The oral exam counts 1/2 and semester assignment 1/2 of the grade. All parts must be passed. If the mean grade falls betweent two grades the oral exam will be given most weight.
Totally 300 hours. Workshops: 20 h * 5 weeks = 100 hours. Preparation and following up work of the workshops including e-learning, self study and exam: 100 hours. Semester assignments: 100 hours.
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).

Type of course:
The subject is based on weekly intensive workshops. Approx. 4-5 workshops (lectures and seminars).
An external examiner approves the evaluation system and participates in the oral exam.
