Course contents:
The following topics will be emphasized:
- Occupational science
- The signicance of Individual, social and cultural factors for activity
- Activity and participation - the benefits for physical, mental and social health
- Human activity in relation to the environment and nature
- Activity in a cultural perspective
- Activity in an every day perspective and life time perspective
Learning outcome:
Following the graduation the student will:
Knowledge
- Have knowledge about the phenomenon of activity (occupation) according to an occupational science perspective
- Have advanced knowledge about the relationship between activity and health
- Have knowledge about the significance of individual, social and cultural factors for participation in activity
- Have knowledge about the relationship between human activity and the environment
Skills
- Be able to acquire new knowledge in the relevant field
- Be able to communicate key issues in the subject area using relevant terminology
- Be able to use the subject area in the development of practice
- Be able to contribute to innovative processes within public health work
General competence
- understand and apply knowledge of health-promoting activity and challenges related to activity/ occupations, both at the individual and system level
- understand and apply knowledge of ethical issues and rights for health-promoting activities both locally and globally
- can analyze, develop and disseminate knowledge about health-promoting activity
Learning activities:
Lectures, seminars, e-learing (Canvas) and self study will support the work with an individual semester assignment. Student skills are assessed through the semester assignment.

Teachers are available at the workshops and through Canvas.
Syllabus:
Scientific articles and books. An overview of literature will be available upon the start of the course.

- UMB-VIT, MAFOLK4100 (HiOA) or FHV315
- UMB-FORSK, MAFOLK4000 (HiOA) or FHV315
Mandatory activity:
Semester assignment including oral presentation. Report on topic and progress of the written examination assignment, including group supervision and oral presentation.
Assessment:
Individual examination assignment counts 100%.
Nominal workload:
Totally 300 hours. Workshops: 30 h * 2 weeks = 60 hours. Preparation and following up work of the workshops including e-learning and self study: 110 hours. Semester assignment: 130 hours.

The course is based on intensive workshops. Approx. 2 weeks full time (lectures and seminars).
