The course is to emphasize open market macroeconomics, particularly external imbalances in the balance of payments, international capital mobility, exchange rates and exchange rate regimes (including optimal currency areas). General equilibrium analysis will also be featured to cover the relationship of various macroeconomic variables (aggregate demand, output, interest rates, exchange rates, inflation, employment, etc.).
Learning outcome:
Studentene skall kunne bruke økonomiske modeller for å analysere konsekvensene av makroøkonomiske ubalanser som føle av endringer I makroøkonomiske variable (samlet etterspørsel, produksjon utbytte, rentenivå, valutakurs, inflasjon, osv.) og makroøkonomisk politikk (finanspolitikk og pengepolitikk).Kurset skal stimulere interessen for dagens samfunnsøkonomiske problemstillinger, gi større forståelse for dagens pengepolitiske or finansielle hendelser på internasjonalt scene, og en forståelse for modeller som bidrar til å forklare slike situasjoner.
Learning activities:
Lectures with student - teacher interaction and seminars. Individual assignments on key theories and models.
Teaching support:
The teacher has office hours, and is available to discuss topics and assignment activities.
Romer, D. (2012) Advanced Macroeconomics (selected sections), plus a selection of book chapters and journal articles. A reading list will be provided at the start of the semester.
Bachelor´s degree in economics or an intermediate course in macroeconomics at the level of ECN222.
Recommended prerequisites:
ECN302 Mathematics for economists.
Written examination, 3,5 hours (100%).

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
Type of course:
4 hours per week for lectures and exercises.
