Course contents:
The course is built up of relevant concepts and models from economics and political science, as a basis for analysis and discussions of current problems and challenges in the Norwegian agricultural policy and food production system, such as production allocation, income levels, food security, import and trade, and climate challenges.
Learning outcome:
Knowledge about: (i) The evolution of the Norwegian Agricultural Policy System; (ii) Policy goals and key features of the Norwegian agricultural policy; (iii) Economic rent, Supply and demand shifters, Pricing of inputs; (iv) Location and mobility of agricultural resources and inputs; (v) Agricultural policy, climate change and food security.
Skills: Describe and analyze consequences for Norwegain agriculture of possible changes in the industry's operating environment, including changes in national agricultural policies and/or international relations and markets.
General competences: Gain a better understanding of how changes in technology, national policies, international agreements, national and international markets may alter a business sector's operating environment.
Learning activities:
Lectures, class discussions and individual literature studies.
Syllabus:
A reading list will be distributed at course start.
Recommended prerequisites:
ECN110 Microeconomics I - How to Think Like an Economist
Mandatory activity:
Participation in at least 2/3 of lectures and class discussions. Approved exercise is valid until the next time the course is given and at the re-examination.
Assessment:
Final written in-class examination (3,5 hours) accounts for 100% of the grade.

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
Type of course:
In total nine days of lectures and discussions. 3-4 hours per day.
Examiner:
External examiner will control the quality of syllabus, questions for the final examination, and principles for the assessment of the examination answers.
