The course consist of three parts: 1. Business cycle analysis and stabilization policy. 2. Economic growth. 3. Current topics.
Candidates from the course shall know core macroeconomic topics, questions, models, such as Keynesian multiplier models, the IS-RR-PK model for closed and open economies, growth models (especially the Solow growth model) and models to explain financial crises.
Candidates shall be able to use these models for doing critical analyses of current macroeconomic issues, including assessing the consequences of macroeconomic changes for firms and individuals.
Candidates shall be able to analyse economic policy and economic reports, such as "Parliamentary White Papers" .
Candidates shall be able to communicate core macroeconomic topics, models and questions to others.
The course combines lectures, exercises, class discussions, and own study of an assigned curriculum.
Parts of: Holden, Steinar (2016): «Makroøkonomi» (1. utg.) and additional articles. A complete curriculum will be handed out at the start of the course.
ECN120 Introduction to Macroeconomics, part I and ECN122 Introduction to Macroeconomics, Part II or similar course.
Students must submit and obtain pass grade for 4 of 6 assignments during the course. Passed compulsory activities are valid for 18 months.
Written exam, 3 hours (100%)
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).

ECN220 Economics II - 5 ECTS
Type of course:
2 x 2 hours of lectures and exercises per week.
A similar course in "intermediate macroeconomics" is offered in many universities in Norway and internationally.
External examiner will control the quality of syllabus, questions for the final examination, and principles for the assessment of the examination answers.
