Taxonomy, cyanobacteria, protists (algae and myxomycetes and oomycetes), fungi, mycorrhiza, lichens, bryophytes, seedless vascular plants, gymnosperms, angiosperms, species identification, pollination, seed dispersal, herbivore defence, evolution and species formation.
The course gives a basic understanding of the diversity of the plant kingdom including mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms, as well as of algae, fungi and lichens. The course introduces the students to these groups of organisms, their morphology, biology and how evolutionary forces have lead to adaptations to various ecological conditions.
The course enables the student to group organisms into kingdoms and phyla, and trains students to be able to identify species of plants and lichens by using identification keys.
The course gives necessary knowledge for further studies in ecology, nature management and other plant-related subjects.

Laboratory course with approved lab journal, as well as participation in the field course with floristic exam.
Written exam (multiple choice), 3 hours, is arranged in May and counts 2/3. The field course is in June and a floristic exam is arranged the last evening of the field course. The floristic exam counts 1/3 of the total grade. It is not necessary that the student passes all tests in the course in order to pass the entire course. A passing grade is based on the overall quality of the entire evaluated material.

An examiner is used for approving the examination questions (multiple choice) and to decide the distribution of grades based on the number of correct answers both for the multiple choice and the floristic exam.
