Course contents:
Lectures on key parts of the teaching goal are giving during the first part of the course. In addition, the students work with a term project. During the last part of the course, the students present the term project is presented for the class and teacher. Course content: Genes and genome structure and function in plants and animals. Basic organisation of the genome. Key methods in gene and genome analysis. Use and potential of this methodology in practical plant- and animal production. Ethical and societal issues related to these applications.
Learning outcome:
The student should know and be able to explain basic organisation and function of genes and genomes in eukaryotes, and to explain basic gene technology methods. Further, the student should know and be able to explain different applications of this knowledge in plant and animal production as well as in aquaculture. The student should be able to participate and argue in the ethical debate concerning the practical application of this technology and knowledge in plant and animal production.

BIO120 and BIO130
Mandatory activity:
Approved project report, including an oral presentation.
Assessment:
The final exam is a multiple choice test. The project report must be approved before the exam can be completed.
