The award is presented to researchers who have carried out outstanding work in the field of livestock breeding and genetics, with particular significance for the development of milk production.
The award is presented by the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA).
Heringstad is receiving the award in recognition of her extensive research into the genetic improvement of health and fertility traits in dairy cows, as well as traits related to feed efficiency and methane emissions. Her work also encompasses the development of new traits that can be used in genetic evaluations. This is achieved, among other things, by utilising data from milking robots and sensor technology.
An extensive list of publications and wide-ranging international collaboration further highlight her significance within the field, and are key reasons for the award.
