About this course

Reforestation. Harvesting and terrain transport. Forest machines. Ergonomics. Forest road planning, construction and maintenance. Logistics, including truck road and railway transportation of timber and other wood fibre products. Environmental and climate considerations.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The students should be able to explain the use of relevant equipment and machines for implementation of work tasks in primary and secondary forest operations, the effectiveness of machines and methods under different forest and terrain conditions. Planning, operational management and quality control of fully mechanized and less mechanized machine systems, the development and implementation of logistics in the wood fibre procurement chain.

Skills:

The students should be able to identify and use the relevant data for planning, executing and evaluating the forestry activities.

General competence:

The students should be familiar with all the aspects (opportunities and challenges) of forest operations related to the forest sector.

  • Prerequisites

    SKOG100, SKOG101, or equivalent.
  • Assessment method

    Combined assessment:

    • Written exam (3 hours) 75 %.
    • Portofolio consisting of several exercises 25 %.

    Students who have previously passed one or more components of the combined assessment in the course are not required to retake these when repeating the course.

  • About use of AI

    Written exam: K1 - No use of AI

    Portfolio: K3 - Full use of AI.

  • Examiner scheme

    External examiner assesses all exam papers. The course responsible assesses the portfolio. Excursions approved by staff.
