About this course

The course consists of a series of lectures mainly on the institution of expropriation, the expropriation process, valuation in the event of expropriation and land acquisition.

The course concludes with a semester assignment. The semester assignment is primarily solved in self-selected groups. Individual semester assignment for students who cannot participate in group work or who have only partially followed the lectures in the fall semester or who do not have the required prior knowledge. Supervision and completion of the assignment will largely take place in the January block.

Learning outcome

Learn law priviples and processes in connection with expropriation necessary for professionally work with expropriation and public purchase of land.

Give the student an understanding of processes and principles that make him or her qualified to enter discussions where these processes, directly or indirectly, is central - in further studies and later professional work.

Give insight into the ethical problems and negotiation problems that characterise expropriative encroachments.

The student is to master the juridical standards for expropriation that apply in Norway. This implies the ethical limits that the legislator draws. Students should be acquainted with the ethical guidelines that have been worked out in this trade.

Students should be able to reflect on how aqusition and expropriation could facititate a sustainable development.

    Lectures. Group work/project/exercises including studies in Norwegian law literature.

    • By appointment, the teacher is available for supervision in the teaching period. Written comments are given, such as feedback on the group work in connection with the examination.

  • Assessment method

    Independent work with assignment (team or individual), A-F.The reports will be evaluated from the students' ability to form relevant problems, to discuss those in a (Norwegian) law methodical way, and to follow up the law conclutions by professional valuation methods.

  • Examiner scheme

    The external examiners participates in design of exam and evaluating all the candidates' examination papers.

    Discussions about the content of the course and how the course is conducted are fixed topics during the examination conference.
