The MidTerm evaluation is an individual activity, linked to the responsibility of the supervisors and the Head of Department.
The midterm evaluation aims to provide the candidate the opportunity to practice presenting his/her research project both written and oral, putting the project into a wider scientific context and regarding it critically from the research ethics point of view. The evaluation is also meant to motivate the candidate and the supervisors to keep up their work efforts and to detect any aspects of the project in need of extra follow up.
Through the midterm evaluation the candidates are expected to reach the following platforms:
· Establish a written and oral presentation of the research project
· Discuss the research results that have emerged in the project
- Review the completion plan of the research project
This course is obligatory for students mid-way into their PhD study and shall be completed within two years of study.
Attendance is compulsory.
The evaluation entails that the candidate written and orally presents his/hers project and informs about progression according to the plan of study.
The written presentation: 5-10 pages presentation and summary of the project. Published works and prepared manuscripts and abstracts must be included as attachments.
The oral presentation: 30 minutes oral presentation given in an open forum with opportunity for questions and discussion in a plenum session following the presentation.
The evaluation: A closed forum led by the project reviewer, and with the PhD candidate, supervisors and Head of Department present. The project reviewer gives the candidate feedback on the written and oral presentations and takes up any academic, organizational or collaborative problems which might have emerged in connection with the project. Finally there is a discussion on how these issues can be dealt with.
