About this course

Introduction to the content of standards for technical design. Projections, partitions, screws, intersections, welding, measures and toleranses. Development of sketches to complete parts and assemblies. Examples of integrated Rapid FEM-analysis. The course contains compulsory exercises which are done in CAD.

Learning outcome

Having passed the course, students will have gained basic knowledge about technical design and skills in using computer-based software such as CAD.
  • The course contains lectures and exercises, where lectures and self-study are given in parallel with introduction to 3D-design software. Exercises - with practical training with guidance in the use of software is given every week. The exercises demand work outside ordinary class hours, and are the basis for the final assessment in form of a folder assessment.
  • The students can make arrangements with the responsible teacher for extra guidance and support in working hours, and also seek support by e-mail.
  • Basic computer skills
  • The learning process is assessed on basis of a given number of completed exercises (25%) and final test (75%).
  • The external examiner has many years of professional experience, and gives feedback on current development and needs. The course outline as well as assessment results are discussed in an ongoing process. The course is updated according to current international research. Criteria and procedures for assessment of student performance are described in a document following the examination assessment.
  • The students have to submit their partial reports twice for colaborative feddback twice during the semester
  • The course is compulsory for Master students specialising in Machinery-, Process- and Product development (M-MPP profile).
  • Lectures and exercises: 4 hours per week.
  • Ranking:

    1. students who have the course as mandatory in their study plan

    2. students on the following study programmes: M-MPP, M-RB and M-IØ

    3. students with most ECTS credits

    It there are not enough slots in group one the students will be ranked by their ECTS credits.

    Students taking the course for the first time have lab priority.
