Course contents:
Plans and design of systems for water supply, drainage and wastewater. Precipitation and surface water, urban hydrology and flood estimations. Transport network for water supply and waste water with their components, water demand, discharge of wastewater, ground water for water supply and well drilling. Renewal and rehabilitation of transport network and protection against pollution of water sources.
Learning outcome:
The students will be able to address the following phases in the water supply and waste water treatment projects: idea, planning, dimensioning, rehabilitation and sanitation of older installations. The students will learn planning and dimensioning of infrastructure elements for water and waste water. These are transport network, transport systems, pumps and other related equipment for water supply and municipal waste water.
Learning activities:
1) Lectures. 2) Project papers/semester assignment. 3) Demonstrations of equipment. 4) Exercises from previously given examination papers or other relevant assignments. 5) Excursion that gives an insight into practice.

Course responsible offers academic guidance during office hours.

Basic knowledge of hydraulics, equivalent to TPS210 Mechanics of Fluids.
Recommended prerequisites:
A basic course that includes hydro-geology (ground water)
Mandatory activity:
The semester assignment must receive a passing grade. Excursion and participation at the well digging.
Written examination, 3.5 hours.
Nominal workload:
For a course of 10 credits, approx. 300 hours of work in total is normally to be expected.
Entrance requirements:
Special requirements in Science
Type of course:
Lectures: approx. 50 hours. Excursion and well digging: approx. 10 hours. Exercises: 6-10 hours. Project assignment: approx. 2 weeks' work.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
