About this course

This course focuses on building physics, energy use, and thermal comfort in commercial buildings and other complex building categories. The main topics include energy efficiency, indoor climate, daylighting, moisture protection, airtightness, thermal capacity, and local renewable energy production, such as heat pumps and solar energy. The course also covers fundamental room acoustics.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Understand the principles of achieving an energy-efficient commercial building with a comfortable indoor climate.
  • Have knowledge of daylight conditions and acoustics.
  • Have knowledge of technical systems in commercial buildings, such as ventilation and heating systems.

Skills:

  • Be able to analyze and design energy-efficient and moisture-resilient building envelopes in commercial buildings.
  • Assess how technical solutions in ventilation systems and façades influence energy use and indoor climate.
  • Evaluate the relationship between energy supply and technical solutions for heating.

General Competence:

  • Critically assess and propose technical solutions that balance energy efficiency, resiliency, and environmental considerations.
  • Communicate analyses related to energy efficiency and comfort.
  • Contribute to the design of sustainable and robust solutions in the design of commercial buildings.
