Physical properties and behaviour of soils, pore pressure and stability. Foundation engineering.
The students shall upon completion of the course understand how different types of soils behave under various loads. The students shall also have knowledge about instruments and measurement techniques. The students should be able to conduct basic analysis of stability, earth pressure, settlements, and general geotechnical engineering in soil.
Lectures and exercises.
The teacher is available in office hours.

Basic mechanics corresponding to FYS101.
Mechanics of Materials and Basic Structural Engineering corresponding to TBM120.
Written exam 3 hours
For a course of 5 credits, ca. 150 hours of work in total is normally to be expected.
Special requirements in Science
Type of course:
Structured teaching is 52 hours (4h/week), divided 50/50 between lectures and supervised exercises.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
