About this course

Physical and mechanical properties and behaviour of soils, stress distribution, shear strength, earth pressure, stability, settlement and foundation engineering.

Learning outcome

The students shall, upon completion of the course, understand physical and mechanical characteristics of soil, stresses and strains, settlements, shear strength and flow of water through soils. The students shall also have knowledge about laboratory and field soil investigations. The students should also be able to conduct basic analysis of slope stability, earth pressure, settlement and bearing capacity.

    Paper based written exam in the exam period, 3 hours, aids code B1 (distributed calculator, no other aids)

  • About use of AI

  • Examiner scheme

    The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the grading guide. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's assessment of a random sample of candidates as a calibration at certain intervals according to the faculty's guidelines for exam grading.

  • Mandatory activity

    Written assignments.

  • Notes

    The course is primarily aimed at students in the five-year programs in construction engineering and architecture and water and environmental engineering, but may also be relevant to students from other study programs who will work with buildings and construction in a broad sense (e.g. landscape architects and engineers, environmental science).

  • Teaching hours

    Scheduled teaching is 52 hours (4 hours/week), split evenly between lectures and supervised exercises.
