About this course

Physical properties and behaviour of soils, pore pressure and stability. Foundation engineering.

Learning outcome

The students shall upon completion of the course understand physical characteristics of soil, stresses and strains, settlements, shear strength and flow of water through soils. The students shall also have knowledge about laboratory- and ground investigations.. The students should be able to conduct basic analysis of stability, earth pressure, settlements and bearing capacity..
  • Lectures and exercises.
  • The teacher is available in office hours.
  • Basic mechanics corresponding to FYS101.
  • Written exam 3 hours
  • The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidates exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
  • Written exercises.
  • Structured teaching is 52 hours (4h/week), divided 50/50 between lectures and supervised exercises.
