Master´s programme in Technology.
Physical properties and behaviour of soils, pore pressure and stability. Foundation engineering and fluid flow in soil.
The students shall upon completion of the course understand how different types of soils behave under various static and hydraulic loads. The students shall also have knowledge about instruments and measurement techniques and be able to use the most common of these. The students should be able to conduct basic analysis of stability and fluid flow in soil.
Lectures and exercises.
The teacher is available in office hours.

Basic mechanics corresponding to FYS101.
Mechanics of Materials and Basic Structural Engineering corresponding to TBM120.
Laboratory exercises and field work.
For a course of 5 credits, ca. 150 hours of work in total is normally to be expected.

Structured teaching is 52 hours (4h/week), divided 50/50 between lectures and supervised exercises.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
Allowed examination aids: All types of calculators, all other aids.
