Course contents:
Forest as a resource. Basics of forest botany. Basics of forest resource inventory emphasizing timber resources and biomass for energy production. Basics of forest biology (ecology, dynamics and human interventions). Introduction to growth and forest dynamics. Elementary forest economics.
Learning outcome:

After completing the course the student should have:

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of forest management within the fields of forest biology, silviculture, forest mensuration, forest production and forest economy.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of the use of equipment and tables to estimate the volume of single trees and forest stands.

General competence:

  • A basis for a deliberate attitude to the role of being a forest manager and for interdisciplinary problem solving in forest management.
Learning activities:
Lectures and independent study are used to achieve learning results in knowledge and understanding.

Students that have registered for the course have web support in Canvas. The lecturers are available for questions during office hours.

Mandatory activity:
At least three compulsory assignments must be passed.
Assessment:
Final written exam (3 hours).

Five credits overlap with SKOG100.
Examiner:
An external examiner will approve and take part in the grading of the written examination and discuss with the person responsible for the course whether or not the learning objectives have been reached.
