Course contents:
Tourism as a phenomenon and as an industry the tourism product destination development local economic impact of tourism nature based tourism, sustainable tourism.
Learning outcome:

Knowledge:

During the course the students will acquire general knowledge about tourism as a phenomenon and as a business in Norway. They will also gain insights in how  the major tourism organisations work for different parts of nature based tourism.

Skills:

The students will gain skills about how to carry out simpler analyses of tourism projects, calculate local impacts of tourism activities, and design and accomodate projects to local conditions with regard to dimensions of sustainability.

General competence:

The students will possess competence with regard to tourism in general, and nature based tourism more specifically. They will develop an understanding of the role of nature based resources for tourism as a business, and also possess competence of many of the organisations and stakeholders within tourism.

Lectures and compulsory term paper.
Teaching support:
The course responsible will be available for consultations during office hours.

Kamfjord, G. 2011. Det helhetlige reiselivsproduktet. Bind 1. Weaver, D. - L. Lawton 2010. Tourism management. Fourth edition. Wiley. Excursions and lectures. A more detailed outline will be given during the first lecture.

Recommended prerequisites:
Basic insight into business administration.
Mandatory activity:
The term paper must be passed before admittance to final exam is granted.
Assessment:
The grade is based on a three hours written exam.
Nominal workload:
Approx. 300 working hours for the student; lectures and term paper included.

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
