Course contents:
Herbology: Weeds, definition, reproduction, migration, damage, classification on biological and ecological grounds, and occurrence in Norway of the most important species. Entomology: Important pest species in green areas, identification, migration. Plant Pathology: Fundamental reasons for diseases in plants, diagnosis, laws concerning dangerous pests, migration routes. Pest control: Principles, conditions and effects of preventive and direct initiatives. Side effects of pest control initiatives. Control of pests in different situations, solutions to different practical pest problems in green areas.
Learning outcome:
The student shall have sufficient knowledge to take action against pest organisms in green areas. He/she shall be acquainted with the biological and ecological qualities of the most important pest organisms (plant pathogens, pests and weeds) in green areas, the fundamentals in control, and be able to choose the relevant actions. Put up control strategies for pests when establishing and conserving green areas. Choose control strategies in line with general opinions on control, mainly in public green areas.

Recommended prerequisites:
Mandatory activity:
Exercises, seminars and handed-in and approved herbarium.
Assessment:
Three hour written exam counts 60% of the grade, herbarium 20%, "casestudy" 10% and exercise report 10%. All parts have to be passed.
Nominal workload:
300 hours.
Entrance requirements:
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Reduction of credits:
PLV 200 (earlier: PLV220, PLV230, PLV240). Reduction: 5 credits.

Lectures: 55 hours. Exercises in greenhouse/laboratory/field: 35 hours. Seminars: 10 hours.
Examiner:
An external examiner will be used both in preparing and assessing the exams.
