About this course

The course includes vegetation ecology and vegetation types, plant anatomy and plant physiology. There will be focus on how this knowledge can be used in planning and management of green infrastructure. Through field trips, identification of plant species and vegetation types, ecological factors will be taught.

Learning outcome

Knowledge Students will be able to describe interactions between plants and the surrounding environment as a basis for further studies in plant selection and management in green areas.

Skills Students will be able to identify vegetation types and their environmental factors, plant species and plant families and plant anatomy and physiological. This knowledge will be used for planning and management of green infrastructure.

General competence Students will be able to explain the interaction between plants and their environment as a basis for further studies in plant selection and management of green areas and in landscaping.

  • Lectures and a week of field work the first week of the Augustblock. Digitale exercises and exercises indoors and outdoors .
  • Written exam 3 hours in the exam period, A-F,

  • An external examiner will bu used by agreement to evaluate the exam.
  • Attendance at field course. Journal must be approved. Test of species must be approved.
  • August: 1 week fieldwork (30 hours), the first week. Autumn: 4 hours lectures and exercises each week
  • Master´s degree students in Landscape Architecture and bachelor´s degree in Landscape Engineering.
  • Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
