The course starts with an introduction to the basics of evolution and genetics, animal behaviour, nutrition, metabolism and population dynamics, and then focuses on the individual wild species ecology, population status, distribution and assessment methods. Furthermore, there will be central management issues such as: Reducing predatory animal numbers in an effort to increase the numbers of edible wild animals, the effect of interference and nature encroachment, forest use and wild biotypes, modern agriculture and the wilderness, wilderness and pollution/wilderness diseases, and practical organisation of wilderness management. The topic of hunting and ethics will also be discussed.
Studies are based on lectures, data collection in the field, individual studies and discussion groups.
Students will receive guidance from both the assistant teacher and the teacher during office hours when preparing the semester assignments.

Final written exam of 3 hours and two semester assignments count 60%, 25% and 15% respectively in the final course grade. All of the evaluated elements in the course must be passed to pass the course.
Lectures: ca. 50 hours. Excursion: 20 hours. Discussion groups: 30 hours. Students" self-study - writing of semester paper, preparation for lectures and reading for exam: 350 hours.
