PhD students with focus on dairy science/dairy technology.
This course is suited for PhD students whose research is within the area of dairy technology or related areas, or are doing research in which dairy technology knowledge is of substantial importance. The course will to a large extent be production oriented, but builds on a comprehensive knowledge of the components of milk and on the units operations in dairy technology. Utilising the components of milk in product manufacturing, product quality and characteristics, and relevant control of products and of production processes will be central topics in the course.
The course involves extensive individual work within a chosen amount of source material. Students may participate in colloquia with teachers as resource persons, given that the students are well prepared.
The course responsible and other contributing teachers can offer academic meetings as an integrated part of the academic work at the department. Special appointments are made on request. Being a doctoral course, it will to a large degree be adapted individually. The course will mainly be based on self-study with guidance and continuous conversations with the course responsible or other contributing teachers.
The syllabus will to a large extent consist of recent research articles, to reflect the newest research within the chosen topics.
Relevant Master´s degree, prefereably with focus on dairy technology. An individual evaluation of the candidates' knowledge will be made. The candidates´ qualifications in dairy technology should preferably be on the same level as the knowledge acquired by taking courses in dairy technology at the master´s level at NMBU.
Normally, a final written examination. If the course is taken completely on an individual basis, oral examination or written assignment can be used.
Lectures: 20 hours. Discussion groups: 100 hours. Self-study: 180 hours.
