MTH300 - planning and writing a master thesis in natural sciences will use modern pedagogic and electronic teaching tools to provide a professional foundation planning and implementing a written Master Thesis in natural sciences. The course covers all aspects of writing a master thesis from developing research questions, planning the research process, searching for information, writing the thesis and defending and publishing.
Learning outcome:
The main goal of the course is to provide sound and reliable strategies for the development and realization of the master project (including writing the thesis) in a given time period. After completion of the course, the student will be able to identify relevant topics and develop a sound and realistic research plan for the given topic, in close collaboration with the supervisor. Through critical monitoring of given progress indicators (Milestones and deliverables), the student will be able to follow and eventually modify the project plans (if required) during the course of the project
Learning activities:
The MTH300 head teacher together with the assigned assistants will ensure weekly updates of the MTH300 Canvas resources. This will be done through video conferencing and electronic discussion fora on the chosen subjects. In addition, students will be assigned project topics to be presented in report form. The reports will be presented in short presentation during the final face-to-face seminar of the course.

In addition to KBM, the NMBU Teaching Centre will also actively contribute with experienced personal to the course concept and implementation.
The entire syllabus of the course will be available in electronic form (links, texts, and reports) in Canvas.
Recommended prerequisites:
BSc academic level is expected, otherwise no other requirements are expected for the MTH300 course
Mandatory activity:
The students have to deliver all assignments (reports and other tasks) on time to pass the course
All obligatory assignments have to be delivered and approved

Entrance requirements:
After the students are accepted in the course, an introductory seminar is arranged to introduce the students to the course concept. Access to the MTH300 resources will be organized electronically via CANVAS
