MATH270 Complex Analysis and Transformation Methods
Showing course contents for the educational year 2015 - 2016 .
Course responsible: Arkadi Ponossov
Teachers: Bjørn Fredrik Nielsen
ECTS credits: 10
Faculty: Department of Mathematical Sciences and Technology
Teaching language: EN, NO
Teaching exam periods:
This course starts in Spring parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in Spring parallel/June block, respectively.
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2004-2005
The most important information on each topic of the course is given in lectures. After this, the students are given problems to solve on the same topics. The aims of the problem-solving are for students to practice calculation technique, understand methods and ideas, as well as be able to apply the subject to technical-physical problems.
The students shall learn elementary theory for analytical functions and transformation methods. They shall be able to apply this theory to problems in geomatics, physics and technology. After completing the course, the students shall master:
- complex numbers
- complex functions
- Cauchy"s integral theorem and Cauchy"s integral formula
- Taylor series and Laurent series
- residue calculations
- Fourier transformations.
The teaching will be given as: lectures, exercises with an assistant teacher present.
The students can either contact the teacher in his office by telephone or by e-mail
Reading list will be handed out in lectures.
MATH111, MATH112, MATH113
Written examination, 3.5 hours.
Theory: 150 hours. Exercises, preparations for the exam: 150 hours.
Special requirements in Science
Type of course:
During the spring parallel: Lectures: 4 hours per week. Calculation exercises: 2 hours per week.
Students who demand teaching in English must put this request at least two weeks before the teaching period starts. All classes will be given during the spring parallel, while the exam is given during the june block.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
Allowed examination aids: Calculator handed out, other aids as specified
