The course is ideal for Landscape architectural or Planning students who want to learn processes and methods for using 3D modelling techniques for landscape design process.
The course will provide a hands-on experience of basic 3D modelling techniques, using 3D modelling software packages such as AutoCAD and SketchUp and others for landscape designers. Students will gain knowledge of basic 3D modelling and visualization techniques. The techniques Introduced in the lectures will be practiced with through exercises at computer lab which later could be applied to a selected landscape design project. At the project stage, students could work with a selected case study. The expected final output from student for the course is the collection of the assignments work, and final project showing how 3D modelling techniques are implemented through a case study.
The course is based on combination of lectures, practice hours with supervision at computer lab and individual project work.

The final project work and course assignments are evaluated. The project evaluation is presented in a seminar at the end of the course in the presence of an external examiner.
Lectures: 40 hours. Practice at computer lab with supervision: 60 hours. Individual work: 200 hours. Total time spent in the course is 300 hours.

The course will introduce a number of topics connected to 3D modelling for landscape design. The topics are divided into main parts through the semester. Each part is built around lectures and exercises and a final project assignment. On completion of the course, students will be able to: work with 3D terrain models, perform analysis and site studies from the terrain, use modelling techniques for creating 3D illustrations, texture a 3D models using materials and texture maps, render a 3D model with appropriate use of lights/sunlight and camera viewpoints. Expected total spending time: 300 hours (30% lectures time + practice time at computer lab with supervision. 70% individual work).
External examiner will evaluate students work, teaching material, final project, course structure and check whether course objectives are been achieved.
