About this course

Through videolectures, optional and mandatory tasks, students will be introduced to basic digital techniques to be included in their projects in subsequent courses. The course consists of four main parts. Part 1: introduction to CAD (Computer Aided Design) for basic drawing operations using Autodesk AutoCAD. Part 2: introduction to graphic design and layout using Adobe tools (Photoshop, InDesign, illustrator). Part 3: introduction to 3D modelling using SketchUp. Part 4: introduction to GIS (Geographic Information systems).

Learning outcome

Knowledge: Students will get basic knowledge in digital drawing and illustration tools for landscape architecture, landscape engineering and city planning, as well as some training in digital techniques for use in planning, analysis, design and presentations.

Skills: Students will practice with digital tools and techniques for planning, design, analysis and presentation.

General competence: After completing the course, students will have a general overview over the main digital tools and techniques that are been used for planning, design and presentation and should have the capacity to start working with it for their forthcoming projects.

  • Learning activities

    Course is based on flipped classroom teaching method. Pre-recorded video lectures and work assignments are provided to students before class session. In-class time sessions at computer lab is devoted to practice and supervision. The lectures ( Prerecorded video is in Norwegian. The supervision can be given in English)

  • Prerequisites

    Completed first semester from the first year in M-LA, M-BYREG, and normally fifth semster B-LI

  • Assessment method

    Portfolio evaluation. Individual assignments are evaluated according to the criterias defined in the task description. 80% of all assignments should be successfully completed and approved by sensor and teacher in order to pass the course.

  • About use of AI

    The applicable usage of AI in this course falls under category K2: AI can be used for idea generation and language proofreading. The use of AI should be described with a brief explanation of which programs you have used and how the program is used in the text. The student is responsible for the final content of the text after language proofreading has been completed. The use of AI should also be in line with the guidelines for the use of AI at NMBU.

  • Examiner scheme

    An external examiner aproves the assesment sheme.

  • Mandatory activity

    The assignments vary according to the moduls. All assignments should be handed in by the end of the current module.

  • Notes

    Due to capacity of computer classes and supervising time this course will be available only to students who has this course as mandatory in programm.

  • Teaching hours

    Flipped classroom: About 30% lectures. About 70% individual work on assignments.
