Course contents:
The topic will consist of lectures, seminars, individual theory work, project related group assignments, and individual project assignment. Thematic content: General political framework and strategies for landscape Landscape in planning and management - goals, challenges and instruments General landscape related issues concerning planning for energy, municipal development, place making, tourism, nature conservation and place based value creation. Landscape analysis as process tool Tools for mobilisation and participation in landscape planning Dynamic management of large protected areas planning and management in semi-urban recreation areas Holistic planning of coastal areas and catchments
Learning outcome:

The student will have knowledge about the relevance of strategic landscape planning in society and the significance to sustainable development

Knowledge about the coherence between natural, historical, human and territorial and the importance this knowledge til sustainable landscape management.

Knowledge about norwegian and international research and practice in dynamic and innovative landscape management

Knowledge about the multifunctionality of landscape and its importance for place identity

Knowledge about the European Landscape Convention

Knowledge about paricipation as an integrated tool for transdisciplinary planning

Knowledge about regional and municipal planning according to the planning act and the nature diversity act.

Knowledge about various actor groups how to communicate with them

Knowledge about scientific writing and how to present and discuss theoretical and case based information

Skills:

The student will have skills in identfying, characterizing and evaluating landscapes and to form planning and development strategies

Skills in designing a project for analyzing a larger landscape area or territory

Skills in communication with actor groups and evaluating in information from interviews and other sources.

Skills in evaluation of relevant knowledge as basis for developing planning proposals

Skills in formulating scope and structuring an individual assignment on advanced level

General competence

The student will be able to conduct own learning process, complete assignments and critically evaluate theories and methods reated to the topic, and to reflect over own learning

Ability to work in a transdisciplinary project group

Ability to perform written presentations of theroies, methods and professional solutions to the topic, with correct references

Ability to prepare and perform presentations to a professional as well as general audience.

The course will make the students able to work with management and development planning in complex landscape situations. This knowledge includes tools for landscape assessments, stakeholder involvement and strategic planning as described in the European Landscape Convention

Studies of litterature, lectures, seminars, field work and projects
Teaching support:
Tutorials will be given both in the group project and the individual assignments.At least 50% of the tuition will be given on Fronter

Mandatory activity:
All excursions,field work and presentations. 80% of lectures, seminars and group instructions

Total workload 600 hrs.
Entrance requirements:
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Reduction of credits:
It is not possible to be credited for both LAA 360 and LAA 361
Examiner:
Censor will approve the course plan and description of assignments. Examinator will take part in the censoring of the group assignment and the individual project. The teachers will censor the theory assignment
Examination details: Continuous exam: A - E / Ikke bestått
