In 2019 LAA 350 will focus on developing new consepts for housing. There is a current trend today that real estate developers want to offer something more than just dwellings. This can be consepts for more common living and sharing. of facilities for spesical groups or just alternativ to traditional housing. The concepts can explore way of growing food together,, new ways of integrating animals in housing areas or other measures that can increase social,- environmental and economic sustainablity, included perspectives on public health.New concepts of urban living will be explored on different sites and in different urban contexts.
The emphasis in the course is project work (group) that goes through the entire semester. Each group will explore opportunities for higher exploitation in a given bounded property. The groups will program their task within a common framework. It should be done feasibility studies that 1) shall assess the financial performance of the unit 2) will be discussed in a contextual connection and transformation object 3) as a contribution to socio-cultural and economic values of the property 4) as a contribution to regional development 5) sustainable development. The course provides theoretical knowledge about:
- Development and change of architecture and urban design. - Ambient effect on people's use and experience - building conservation, energy use and new development possibilities.
The course emphasizes a high degree of independence. Students must through programming phase be able to understand and weigh the issues of the case and select methods to investigate these.Tools and presentations will range from a written material to presentation by means like film or web pages. It may be appropriate to carry out field work during the semester. This will not be mandatory.
Students will gain knowledge and skills for property development within the existing urban environment. Students will be able to describe and analyze urban space, get insight of urban transformation processes and be able to examine a development opportunities in the various area contexts. Students will work on different properties/plots with potential development scenarios. Through feasibility studies students gain knowledge and skills to consider consequences and effects of a development, and how this project development may be part of the overall objectives of achieving both higher density and increased urban quality and livability. The quality of the unbuilt spaces will have a major place in the course.

The course will have interdisciplinary groups which requires that students learn from each other and working constructively with utilizing an interdisciplinary approach to the task.
