Course contents:
The course contains of five thematic seminars (lectures, work shops, study tours) Individual analyses and exercises are connected to these seminars. A group project are connected to the overall theme of the course. The course focuses on contexts of buildings/estates as single objects and the city/townscape as structure and as human habitat. The course emphasizes both theoretical framework and practical knowledge of architectural development and changes in urban form. It gives insight in how physical environment effect on human behavior and experiences, included children´s conditions for growing up. The course will present a thematically span from issues such as street life, building heritage, use of energy in buildings to development control and urban form.
Learning outcome:
The students will gain knowledge of conditions and expectations about architectural quality. That means: & Spatiality, the context of public and private zones & Learn how to evaluate and discuss building projects and physical environment in relation to change or conservation & Development of estate values & Functional and spatial connections of traffic, mobility and urban space. & Building heritage in light of new use and contemporary needs & Be familiar to skilled terminology and presentation techniques. A high degree of independency will be encouraged. Through a phase of programming will the students understand and learn how to weigh the different issues imbedded the case and choose appropriate methods to investigate the issues. It is possible to present the case as text, illustrations, film or website. Overall theme for H-2011 will be & new dwellings and densification of existing urban structure& . A case is not yet decided. It might be an educational trip in the program, this will not be mandatory.
