Course frequency: <p>The course will be given in even years.</p><p>NMBU works for an agreement for this course to alternate with an equivalent proteomics course at the University of Oslo.</p>

Course contents:
Sample preparation for MS- and LC-MS analysis of proteins, identification and quantification of proteins. It is emphasized that this course requires the ability and willingness to work independently and meticulously with advanced biochemical methods. Students shall present one scientific article in a seminar. If necessary, this presentation must be given in English.
Learning outcome:
Theoretical and practical training in methods to study the proteome, enabling the student to use the methods independently in a research project. Mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, electrophoresis, bioinformatic analysis of large data sets.
Learning activities:
Lectures, oral presentation, independent laboratory work, assignment under supervision of instructors.
Teaching support:
Contact with the teachers in the lectures and during the laboratory exercises. Fronter.

Prerequisites:
Biochemistry equivalent to KJB201 or KJB210.
Recommended prerequisites:
Protein Chemistry, KJB310, or equivalent. 
Mandatory activity:

Participation in all activities.

To pass the course, students have to be present at lectures as well as at the laboratory sessions.

Assessment:
Approved laboratory journal and approved oral presentation of a topic or a scientific paper.

Reduction of credits:
Students with KJB420 (an extended version of KJB320) will not get credits for KJB320.
KJB320 overlaps completely with the first 5 credits of KJB420.

Note:

Participation in all classes is mandatory.

Taught in even years only from the study year 2016/2017 on.

An external examiner evaluates the course arrangements.
Internal examiners evaluates the laboratory journals and the presentations.
