Course contents:

Thorough introduction to quantitative genetics: kinship and inbreeding, genetic parameters, breeding values, selection, breeding methods and inbreeding in populations.


Learning outcome:

Students should be able to analyse the effect of different approaches to breeding (in pure- and cross-breeding) and possess sufficient knowledge to continue studies in the subject area.

Lectures and assignments.


Syllabus:
Understanding Animal Breeding (R.M. Burdon) + notes + assignments.
Prerequisites:

Statistics, equivalent to STAT100. Genetics, equivalent to BIO120.


Recommended prerequisites:
Mandatory activity:

All exercises, in the relevant semester, must be passed.


Assessment:
2 written examinations, 3 hrs each.
Nominal workload:

300 hours.
