Course contents:

The course will cover selected topics of the field of infrared and Raman spectroscopy of biological material. Depending on the background of the students, individual topics can be chosen:

1.     Infrared and Raman spectroscopy for medical diagnosis

2.     Infrared and Raman spectroscopy of cells and tissues in biology

3.     Theoretical and numerical topics such as light scattering of infrared light at cells (Mie theory) and mathematical modelling of infrared and Raman spectra.   

Learning outcome:
To obtain theoretical knowledge in the field light and biological material. To be able to present to present topics from this field orally. To be able to analyse spectroscopic measurement data.
Learning activities:
The course consists of students presentations of selected topics and project work. The students give oral presentations of selected topics in colloquia. In addition, the students perform a project work in the course of the semester. The topics for the projects will be adjusted to the students¿ background. The projects will be presented orally.
Teaching support:
The teacher will be present during the colloquiums and available for supervising the project work.
Selected topics on master level
The course will be adjusted to the students bakground. Both PhD students with a physics, chemistry, biology background or similar background will be eligible.
Recommended prerequisites:
Students with a physics, chemistry, biology background or similar background will be eligible.
Mandatory activity:
Colloquiums and project work
Students present topics, and it is the presentation that are the basis for assessment.
Nominal workload:
40 hours colloquiums 260 hours own work

Type of course:
The will be colloquiums of 2 hours, 2 times a week, in total 10 weeks.
An external sensor examins the overheads produced by the students for the presentation of their topics.
