Course contents:
Lectures and calculation exercises will be evenly spread throughout the teaching period. The course covers the fundamental principles and topics in quantum mechanics:
- Light
- Wave mechanics
- Time-independent Schrödinger equation.
- One-dimensional potentials
- Principles of Quantum mechanics
- Quantum mechanics in three dimensions
- Identical particles
- Solid state physics
Learning outcome:
- To get an introduction in the field of quantum physcs.
- To understand basic concepts in quantum physics.
- To be able to analyze and solve problems in quantum physics.
- To be able to solve problems in quantum physics numerically.
Learning activities:
LECTURES: Central ideas, theory and examples.
TUTORIALS: Comprehension and calculation exercises. The assistant teacher takes part in discussion or other study work.
LAB: Each student performs one lab excercise in the course of the semester.
INDEPENDENT STUDY: Students work in colloquia and independently. They read and discuss theory, calculate and discuss exercises.
Teaching support:
Students will be able to meet the lecturer outside the structured teaching time.

MATH250, MATH270
Mandatory activity:
One or more project studies.
Assessment:
Final written examination (3.5 hours) with questions from the curriculum and mathematics exercises.
Nominal workload:
300 hours including structured teaching.

Type of course:
Lectures: 2 double hours per week for 13 weeks = 52 hours. Exercises: 1 double hour per week for 13 weeks = 26 hours.
Examiner:
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
