Course contents:
The following topics will be covered:
- Optimization and prices
- Consumer choice and firm behavior
- Market equilibrium in exchange and production economies
- Dynamic optimization in discrete and continuous time
- Uncertainty and risk aversion
- Strategic equilibrium with symmetric or asymmetric information
Learning outcome:
The objective of this course is to give the successful student a deep understanding and command of the core of microeconomic theory: maximizing behavior and equilibrium outcomes.
Learning activities:
Lectures, laboratory, exercises and presentations.
Teaching support:
The teacher is available during office hours.

Selected chapters from J. G. Riley (2012): Essential Microeconomics. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge.
Prerequisites:
ECN302 Mathematics for Economists, ECN311 Microeconomics III
Recommended prerequisites:
ECN312 Industrial Organisation
Assessment:
The evaluation of the student's effort in the course is pass/fail based on (completed and approved) written exercises.

300 hours

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)

Lectures: 2 hours each week. Laboratory: 2 hours each week.
