Course contents:
Basic economic theory and how the theory/philosophy can help to understand current social problems. To a large extent, students will be activated in discussions and by writing topic assignments. In both of these activities academic working methods will be required.
Learning outcome:
  • Students will have knowledge of basic subjects in Economics, such as market, rationality, equilibrium and models.
  • Students will have experience in communicating economic issues orally and in writting.
  • Students will have experience in planning and implementing tasks together with others in groups.
Learning activities:
Lectures, reading of articles, field trip, two seminar meetings, presentations and discussion of assignments.
Syllabus:
Parts of: Røed Larsen, Erling (2004): Alt du vil vite om samfunnsøkonomi, Gyldendal. Plus supplementary material. Reading list will be distributed in the beginning of the course.

Assessment:
Two topic assignments and two approved critic assignments. No re-examination.

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
Reduction of credits:
ECN101 - 5 ECTS, EDS140 - 5 ECTS.
