BOT200 Plant Physiology

Credits (ECTS):10

Course responsible:Jorunn Elisabeth Olsen

Campus / Online:Taught campus Ås

Teaching language:Norsk, engelsk

Course frequency:Annually

Nominal workload:250 hours.

Teaching and exam period:This course starts in the autumn parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in the autumn parallel.

About this course

The course deals with the regulation of metabolism and growth and development in plants and the effects of environmental and climate conditions in this context. The experimental nature of the subject is emphasized by the fact that the students themselves work with laboratory experiments linked to the subject areas of the course and by working with reports from the experiments.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The course provides knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of plants at different developmental stages. The course also provides knowledge about responses of plants to climatic and environmental factors and how these affect the metabolism and growth-regulating mechanisms of plants.

Skills:

Students receive training in conducting practical experiments that include both growth experiments and selected analyses in the laboratory. Students also receive training in presenting and discussing experimental results and practice in the use of concepts and methods as well as collaboration in groups.

General competence:

Students will gain knowledge of key topics in plant physiology, both the general metabolism of plants and how internal and external factors regulate plant growth and development.

  • The course includes lectures with associated exercises that require the students' own effort. The course also includes student-active work with compulsory laboratory exercises with associated report writing.
  • Discussion/repetition classes will be given. The lab teachers correct the lab reports and provide comments. Exercises to the different subjects are provided.
  • BOT130, KJM100.
  • Written exam on campus 3 hours in the exam period, A-F. The written exam counts for100%
  • The examiner contributes with discussion of the examination tasks and evaluation of these.
  • Approved laboratory course (requires approved participation and approved reports).
  • In order for the lab course to be planned as well as possible, it is important that students are encouraged to register for the course as early as possible.
  • Lectures: 26 hours. Laboratory course: 30 hours. In addition, repetition/discussion classes are given.
  • Letter grades
  • Special requirements in Science
