Course responsible: Jorunn Elisabeth Olsen
Teachers: Linda Ripel, Payel Bhattacharjee
ECTS credits: 10
Faculty: Faculty of Biosciences
Teaching language: EN, NO
(NO=norsk, EN=Engelsk)
Teaching exam periods:
This course starts in Autumn parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in Autumn parallel.
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2005-2006
Course contents:
The topics of the course are the metabolism and regulation of growth and development in plants as well as the effects of environmental and climatic factors in these respects. The experimental nature of the field is emphasised by experimental work related to the topics of the course as well as by reporting experimental results.
Learning outcome:

Knowledge:

The course provides knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of plants at different developmental stages. The course also provides knowledge about responses of plants to climatic and environmental factors and how these affect the metabolism and growth-regulating mechanisms of plants.

Skills:

Students receive training in conducting practical experiments that include both growth experiments and selected analyses in the laboratory. Students also receive training in presenting and discussing experimental results and practice in the use of concepts and methods as well as collaboration in groups.

General competence:

Students will gain knowledge of key topics in plant physiology, both the general metabolism of plants and how internal and external factors regulate plant growth and development.

Learning activities:
The course includes lectures and mandatory laboratory work with writing of reports. The course also includes exercises related to the lectures.
Teaching support:
Discussion/repetition classes will be given. The lab teachers correct the lab reports and provide comments. Exercises to the different subjects are provided.
