About this course

The course APL 350 address procedural aspects of developing and implementing urban development projects. This include assessment of municipal superior plans and preparation of detailed plans, including the use of development agreements. The course also analyses the economics of development projects by assessing construction cost and analyzing income potentials.

The course discusses the various means of implementation of plans and project ideas, and relate these to development projects' economic sustainability. The course emphasizes urban redevelopment projects with housing as an important component.

We work with specific development projects and analyzes factors that determine the parameters for project implementation, and we produce action plans for the realization of the project.

Learning outcome

The course will provide students with knowledge and skills in implementation of urban development projects. Particular emphasis is placed on how local planning authorities facilitate individual development projects and the intersection between the developer and the planning authority.

The course operationalize the students' knowledge in the planning discipline with the aim of strengthening their understanding on the implementation of development projects. The course will also give insight into the economic sustainability in urban (re) development projects.

  • Intensive lectures, site visits, day conference as intended to serve as support for group work and discussion groups. All students must attend lectures and work in groups.
