The course is structured around an introductory lecture, followed by supervised group work. The groups search for an appropriate and relevant planning case to work with and choose which planning authority they want to be. The task is to write a consultation letter and an associated reflection note, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the plan and making a judgement whether or not a formal objection might be in order. The group work is supervised, and the work will be presented in plenary to allow feedback from supervisors and fellow students. The written work is expected to be handed in at the end of term and assessed on a pass/fail basis.
Through the course, the students will:
- Develop a good knowledge in a more in-depth understanding of planning practices, procedures and criteria.
- Be able to search for, assess, and analyse relevant information related to planning cases
- Demonstrate an ability to reflect on diverging perspectives and conflicts of interest
- Demonstrate a good capacity to collaborate with others on given tasks.
