This course starts in spring parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in spring parallel.
Course frequency: It is not clarified when the course may be provided first time, but it will from that point be given on a yearly basis.

The course includes lectures, seminars, required reading, written course papers and discussions. The planning theories are presented through lectures. They are furthermore discussed in groups and it is expected that the students actively participate in the discussions.
The students will have knowledge about main directions in planning theory. This include power, professional ethics, normative and discursive planning theory, instrumental and communicative rationality. The aim is to enable the student to build a theoretical platform for own reflection on planning as a professional activity.
Before each seminar, all students have prepared and handed in an assignment based on the literature for the seminar. Each student has also read one other student's assignment and is prepared to give comments in groups.
Most of the literature will be available on Canvas.
APL103, APL108 (or equivalent), LAA250, APL 250
Obligatory lectures and seminars (70 % attendance), obligatory individual written course papers and active participation in discussions.
Four individual written course papers (pass/fail). Written exam. Course marks based on the written exam.
300 hours allocated for lectures, seminars, required reading, written course papers and discussions.

The course is under development. It will over time substitute today's APL330 as a compulsory course in planning theory. APL230 will not be provided until a strategy for handling the transition exists, as well as adequate teacher staffing. In the meantime the students may refer to APL330.
