About/Aims
Background

PHOTONFOOD is a four-year research and innovation project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme. The project is a collaboration between 13 partner organisations in 8 European countries, and is coordinated by NMBU.

Objective

The aim of the PHOTONFOOD project is to provide a portable solution for flexible farm-to-fork sensing of microbial and chemical contamination in food products and along the food production chain. PHOTONFOOD will develop an integrated solution that combines innovations in mid-infrared (MIR) sensing with smart paper-based sample treatment, and advanced data analysis. This solution will be developed for the detection of microbial and chemical contamination, validated and demonstrated in real scenarios along the food value chain.

By developing, validating and demonstrating a compact, portable, broadly adaptable, multipurpose solution, PHOTONFOOD will bring down the cost of fungal, mycotoxin, pesticides and antibiotics testing on all levels of the food chain.
