Career Day for PhD Candidates and Postdoctoral Fellows

A completed doctoral degree qualifies for leading positions in research activities and for other work in society, where great demands are placed on scientific insight and analytical thinking. The career paths and job opportunities are therefore many. NMBU arranges annually, a career day tailored for PhD Candidates and Postdoctoral Fellows at the university. PhD Career Day is an attractive meeting place between candidates, younger researchers, private industry and the public sector.

The PhD Career Day is organized in collaboration with The Life Science Cluster (TLSC). The Life Science Cluster is a network for all companies and organizations where life science is central.

    Åse Riseng Grenstad, TINE SA

    Åse has a master's degree in food science from NMBU, specialized in the production and development of foodstuffs. After completing her master's degree, she started as a trainee at TINE. During the trainee period, she had connections to various TINE locations such as Jæren, Oslo and Brumunddal. Her tasks spanned production, laboratory work and participation in product development and improvement projects. After completing the trainee program, she was offered an industrial doctorate in the field of sensory science. The aim of the PhD is to increase the understanding of how raw material composition and various process parameters affect the quality and shelf life of yogurt. In addition, it is a priority to build up expertise in the sensory field in TINE SA, to replace the fact that more employees will retire within a few years. Åse has been working on her PhD for 2 years.

    Carolin Fischer, NIBIO

    Carolin has a Master in Forestry and Wood Science from TU Munich and a PhD in Wood Science from NMBU. She was working as a PostDoc/researcher in different research projects at NMBU, the Forest Research Institute of Baden-Wuerttemberg/Germany and NIBIO. Carolin's main research focus is timber quality and traceability in the forest value chain. Since 2022, She is the Head of Department for Forest Operations and Digitalisation. The group is hosting a Senter for Research driven Innovation (SFI) and several EU projects. Carolin very much enjoys the interaction of people and the benefits of these interactions, one of them is research and industry!

    Petter Vejle Andersen, NOFIMA

    Petter Vejle Andersen, NOFIMA

    Petter is a scientist in the department for raw materials and process optimization at Ås. He completed his PhD in 2018 at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås, Norway, in the use of spectroscopic techniques for meat quality assessment. In the last few years, Petter has focused on his work on applied spectroscopy for analysis of food in general. His main research interest is to use spectroscopy for improvement of production procedures and overall food quality in the food industry, which includes e.g., efficient use of raw materials, optimization of processes and possibilities for product differentiation.

    Signe Lovise Thingnes, NORSVIN

    Signe has a master's degree in animal science with emphasis on ethology from NMBU in 2007. She started in a 2-year project manager position in Norsvin after completing master's degree. Was then permanently employed as an advisor in Norsvin's department in 2009. At the same time, She started a business PhD in Norsvin with emphasis on nutrition and management of sows, which I completed in 2013. Has since worked 50/50 in Norsvin's department as an advisor and Norsvin's research department as a researcher.

    Dr Ying Yen fermentation scientist, NOMY

    Ying Yen, NOMY

    Ying obtained her PhD in Bioscience and Aquaculture in Nord University in Bodø. She is passionate about developing novel feed and food solutions. The PhD project investigated the fermentation of seaweeds and their utilization as animal feed. In NoMy, Ying is contributing in developing the fermentation process of filamentous fungi and characterizing the filamentous fungi as novel fish feed.

    Dr Kinanthi Mondylaksita, NOMY

    Kinanthi Mondylaksita, NOMY

    Kin earned her PhD in Food Science through a collaborative programme between Universitas Gadjah Mada and the University of Borås. Her doctoral research focused on the bioconversion of agricultural byproducts into alternative carbon sources for the production of edible filamentous fungi. Passionate about fermentation and filamentous fungi, Kin recognises their significance not only as a staple food but also as a solution for treating food byproducts. Currently, she is a fermentation scientist at Nomy, leading the development of fermentation processes for filamentous fungi and refining analytical methods for compositional analysis.

    Christopher Snyder, NOMY

    Chris studied mathematics at Cornell University and has spent 20 years working within technology leadership, sustainability and innovation, in both the private and public sectors. He had his start in life and work in the US before moving to Norway, and has gained in both countries extensive experience in product delivery, organizational transformation and business development. Chris has helped leaders learn to think systemically and to act collaboratively. He has also led efforts to build business resilience and agility in large organizations. As COO Chris contributes to building NoMy through commercial, organizational and product development.

    Nataliia Sivchenko, DOSCON

    Nataliia got her PhD degree from NMBU in 2018 in the field of water and environmental engineering. For more than a decade Nataliia is dedicated to advancing coagulation process control for water and wastewater treatment. Initially focused on developing image analysis sensors for flocs, her research contributed to water treatment innovation. Now serving as a project manager, she coordinates various scientific projects. Her current endeavors include project management for the development of sensor prototype targeting “forever chemicals” and humic acids, as well as advancing membrane technology. With a passion for making meaningful contributions, Nataliia remains committed to leveraging her expertise to address pressing environmental challenges. She values collaboration and teamwork, recognizing the collective effort required for progress.

    Aleksander Hykkerud, DOSCON

    Aleksander Hykkerud, DOSCON

    Aleksander works with the development and management of data collection systems. His primary role includes the administration and further development of these systems, which are critical to DOSCON's ability to collect and analyze data effectively. His work further extends to the development of internal tools for data processing and automation of computational processes. These tools are important for streamlining operational processes and for the products delivered to customers.
    Due to his technical skills, Aleksander has also played a central role in product development. He combines his knowledge of sensor and communication hardware and electronics with innovative solutions for installation and data transmission.

    Stine Samsonstuen, NORSUS

    Stine Samsonstuen, NORSUS

    Stine works as a senior researcher at NORSUS (Norwegian Institute for Sustainability Research) and works with projects within food production, with main focus on life cycle assessment of agricultural-based products. She has a master in Animal Science from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), with specialisation in breeding and genetics. In 2019, she finalised her PhD degree at NMBU «Modelling of greenhouse gas emissions from beef cattle production systems». Stine is inspired by working with various issues that are important for the industry and society related to sustainable food production.

    Hanne Møller, NORSUS

    Hanne Møller, NORSUS

    Hanne is a senior research scientist at NORSUS (Norwegian Institute for Sustainability Research) with a long experience in analyzing sustainability within food systems and especially on livestock products. She works with applied research, i.e. both in research projects and with assignments for companies. Recently, Hanne finished a collaborative project with NMBU on sustainable livestock production. Currently she is a dr.philos candidate, soon finishing the doctoral thesis. Hanne finds her work in sustainability assessments engaging because it yields insights that can drive societal change in the right direction.

    Tanja Kofod Petersen, Multiconsult

    Tanja Kofod Petersen, MULTICONSULT

    Tanja has a master’s degree from the University of Copenhagen and PhD in biology from NTNU. After finishing her PhD, she has worked both as a researcher and as an advisor regarding alien species in the public sector. Her broad experience with various digital tools has allowed her to be an interdisciplinary resource with her current employer, Multiconsult, working in the intersection between biology/ecology/nature management and GIS. She works with both impact assessment and pure GIS-tasks, and she is involved in several research- and development projects. What motivates Tanja in her field of work is the prospect of having an impact on the decisions made, both regarding individual development projects and on a higher political level.
