International applicants: How to apply - bachelor programme

NMBU offers one English taught bachelor: International Environment and Development Studies.

Checklist for applicants:

  • If you have upper secondary school from outside of the Nordic countries and cannot document proficiency in Norwegian with an approved test, you must apply in the international application process.

    If you meet the general entrance requirements for higher education in Norway, including language requirements in Norwegian (generell studiekompetanse), please apply through NUCAS (Samordna Opptak).

  • The minimum entrance requirements for admission to higher education in Norway is set by HKDIR and can be found in the web page for Higher Education Entrance Qualification (GSU). This list states the basic requirements for admission to higher education in Norway. 
    Admission is highly competitive and normally requires higher grades than the minimum needed to be qualified for admission. 

  • Applicants must document proficiency in English with an internationally recognized test or education from certain countries. NMBU has a higher requirement for proficiency in English than stated in the HKDIR GSU list. Please be aware that IELTS and TOEFL test dates fill up quickly. Be sure to schedule your test early.

  • Applicants from outside the EU must document their ability to finance the stay in Norway in order to be granted a student residence permit.
    The required amount is currently NOK 137 907,- (one hundred and thirty-eight thousand nine hundred and seven) for the academic year 2023/2024. Please see The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration for more information.

  • Check our documentation requirements and make sure that you have all the required documents ready, and that they are in the correct format (.pdf). The academic entrance requirements must be completed and documented by 1 December.

    All documents must be uploaded in the application portal.  Applicants with higher education from the Philippines or the USA must also order transcripts sent directly from their university to NMBU

    • The application period is 15 October - 1 December. Apply in Søknadsweb.
    • Enter your name as written in your passport
    • Please upload all documents when you register your application.
    • 1 December is the final deadline to upload all academic and financial documents. Your application will be considered invalid if you have not uploaded any supporting documents within the deadline or does not meet the English requirements. Invalid applications will not be processed.
    • You may apply for up to two NMBU programmes at bachelor and master level. Please note that NMBU only offers one bachelor programme in English. You may reprioritize your programmes until the application deadline.
    • If you are offered admission to your first priority, you will not be offered admission to your second priority.
  • The admission results will be available in the application portal by the end of April.

    If you are offered admission, you will also be notified through your registered e-mail address. Those offered admission will have a short deadline to accept the offer. 

    Applicants may be asked to present original educational documents upon admission.
