With more than 60.000 lakes and waters Finland is called "the country of the thousand lakes". The country is considered to be one of the world's most peaceful countries, with some of the world's happiest people. The Finns are investing heavily in education and are often praised for their educational system. Over 90% of the population speak Finnish as their first language, while about 5% speak Swedish.
NMBU has agreements with three universities in Finland. Tampere University of Technology about two hours from the University of Helsinki in the capotal, and University of Finland with three campuses in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna.
