NATF370 Internship in Ecology and Management of Natural Resources

Course frequency:Annually, the subject is given in all teaching periods.

Nominal workload:

The course can be either 10 or 15 ects.

10 credits = 250 hours (of which at least 150 hours in the business).

15 credits = 375 hours (of which at least 250 hours in the business).

The remaining part of the time is used for contact with the business, contract writing, completion of mandatory assignements and portfolio submissions.

Teaching and exam period:The course runs in August block, autumn parallel, January block, spring parallel and June block. The start and end of the course can extend over several teaching periods.

About this course

The course provides an opportunity to gain work experience in a relevant business with issues in ecology and management of natural resources, where students and businesses will benefit mutually from the experience. The student will take part in, and link accumulated theoretical and practical knowledge to the company's activity.

Learning outcome

A candidate with a completed qualification should have the following learning outcomes in the course:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of relevant work tasks in businesses and how to work with these.

Knowledge of how a company organizes its everyday work.

Knowledge of how one's own professional competence can be used in working life.

Skills:

Can plan, prioritize and structure everyday work to carry out planned projects and tasks.

Can reflect on their own professional practice and adjust this under supervision.

Can communicate and reflect on their own experiences

General competence:

Can collaborate on professional issues, and implementation of projects, in a working life situation.

Can reflect on and critically evaluate how knowledge acquired through the study can be used in practical work tasks.

Can apply their knowledge and skills in new areas to carry out advanced tasks and projects.

    • Practical work in the business
    • Familiarize yourself with relevant literature for the practical work
    • Presentation of the work using a video, podcast or blog post
    • Reflection report
  • Learning support is provided through:

    • guidance from the contact person in the business
    • guidance from a professional supervisor at MINA
    • employee interview during the internship
  • Relevant background in ecology and management of natural resources.
  • Portfolio assessment consisting of:

    • Reflection note
    • Video, podcast or a blog post from the work the student has carried out during the period in the business. It should be possible to publish the product on MINA's website.


  • An external examiner approves the assessment scheme.
    • Deliver a contract between the student, business and academic supervisor
    • Practice letter ahead of the period
    • Note from an employee interview between the student and the company
    • Completed work in the business in accordance with the contract
  • The course is credit-giving. No salary shall be received for the internship period.

    To take the course, the student must:

    1. Find a business and internal academic supervisor.

    2. Write a contract with the company and the internal academic supervisor.

    3. Send a completed contract to studieveileder-mina@nmbu.no.

    4. The study advisor sends confirmation of an approved contract to students, the company and the internal academic supervisor.

  • The course is reserved for students at B-ØN, M-ECOL and M-NF.
  • Students admitted to the master's program in Ecology and the master´s program in Management of Natural Resources.

    Students admitted to the bachelor´s program in Ecology and Management of Natural Resources and passed relevant courses of at least 120 ects.
