International seminar: Protected Areas and World Heritage Areas – Integrating Visitor Management and Local Community Development

The point of departure for this seminar is the ongoing research project Visitor Management and Local Community Development in the West Norwegian Word Heritage Fjord Areas Nærøyfjorden and Geirangerfjorden.

The communities located in these fjords are surrounded by large protected areas, heavily influenced by the tourist industry, particularly related to cruise tourism.

The aim of the project is to gain new knowledge about the visitors and their impacts on the local communities, in order to make a visitor strategy and integrated spatial planning for the areas. In this seminar, we focus on the relationship between protection of natural and cultural values, spatial planning, local community development and visitor management, highlighted with experiences from Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

Keynote speakers: Peter Fredman, Dominik Siegrist, Ingo Mose, Andreas Voth
